Beyond the screen
Every day we connect with others to share our lives, moments and experiences. We try to find the best way to communicate with each other, and technology makes it easier. Technology has changed significantly how we connect with people. In the past, we could only talk to people face-to-face or by letters, but nowadays it is quite different, we just need a cellphone, a computer or even a tablet to communicate with the people we want to talk to. So we might think this is the best way, but is it really as great as we are used to thinking? Let's found it out!
Some years ago, not too long ago, we were decorating some letters, or knocking on people's doors. It was kind of interesting and also fun. I mean, waiting for the answer to a letter or waiting for someone to open the door was something exciting. But now it is much simpler: just click on the screen and that's it. And I don't mean it is not good or not exciting too, because I can also remember when I was confessing my love by sending a message and seeing the check mark turn blue was quite anxious. But it's somehow a little bit removed from the real emotion of being in front of the person and being able to say "Hey, I'm in love with you ".
On the another hand, we can give technology a positive point. We can make friends easily. You jus need to create a profile and then you can start sharing your life with many people around the word. But... There's also one disadvantage because a lot of people have fake profiles and they pretend to be someone else, and this is dangerous for our privacy and security
Another thing is that on social media we just see the beautiful side of people's lives. I mean, when you open you cellphone and go to instagram, Facebook, TikTok or whatever, the first thing you are going to see is: perfect couples, perfect life, perfect house... Perfect, perfect perfect.... And there's when we start feeling bad about our own lives and wondering why we're not like them.
After saying all of this, you must be thinking I'm against technology, but I have a surprise: I love technology. Because at the and of all, the problem is not technology, the problem is us. The problem is that we prefer asking to be a couple over WhatsApp rather than saying it face-to-face. We prefer seeing other people's lives instead of focusing on our own happiness. We prefer to do everything that hurt us and move us away from the beautiful things life bring to us... We just need to be conscious is what we're doing, so then technology is will be the best tool that could ever exist.
